Welcome to the Veterans Services (VS) Research Directorate at Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC).
Established in 2001, the VS Research Directorate is one of three research "pillars" of the Department. Health research is is also a core business activity for Ste. Anne's Hospital and is an integral component of VAC's Mental Health Strategy.
In general, the VS Research Directorate focuses on five broad research domains:
Research may be conducted internally or acquired directly from or in partnership with external bodies – such as universities, consultants, national research funding bodies and other government departments (e.g., the Department of National Defence).
Knowledge acquired from research is of relevance to departmental decision and policy makers, program planners, health managers, clinicians and various stakeholders. They use their knowledge to guide their efforts in support of the health and well-being of Veterans Affairs clients.
As military and Veteran health issues have become increasingly international in scope, we share and collaborate with Veterans' administrations in allied countries.
We are committed to ensuring that the findings from our research are available to the public so that, where possible, we can contribute to national policy discussions that benefit Veterans, our other clients, and the broader Canadian population. We hope you find our site useful and informative, and we welcome your research inquiries and suggestions.
