
Mr. C.S. (Cy) Yarnell was born on August 9, 1920, in Carlow, Southern Ireland. He was seven when his family immigrated to Canada in 1928, settling in Toronto. Mr. Yarnell enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 at the age of 20 and trained as a pilot.
Providing air support to Canadian and allied troops, Mr. Yarnell flew Spitfire 8s and 9s with 601 (RAF) Squadron in Italy. He went on to fly Spitfire XV1 aircraft with 403 Squadron (RCAF), ending the war just south of Hamburg as a flight commander.
Following the war, Mr. Yarnell continued with the RCAF, retiring in 1975 as a colonel. He then worked for the Minto Corporation in Ontario and Florida until 1982. He is a member of the Air Force Association of Canada and is very active with the Air Force Museum in Trenton, Ontario, where he has been involved with the "AD ASTRA" Memorial Stones Program since its inception in 1996.
Mr. Yarnell and his wife, Phyllis, have three children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
