Les Canadiens et la Seconde Guerre mondiale, 1939-1945

This education kit is the latest addition to Veterans Affairs Canada's earlier inventory of multimedia learning materials.

This new resource includes two videos, a teacher's resource guide, five copies of the Canada Remembers learning magazine, and four posters. The materials are suitable for grades 7 - 13, and are available to educators in both English and French, at no cost from Veterans Affairs Canada.

This comprehensive learning resource provides educators with historical information, materials, lesson plans, and activities for use as a supplementary resource for social studies and history curriculum. The goal of the kit is to encourage junior high and high school aged Canadian students to learn more about the men and women who served Canada during the Second World War and to appreciate how their sacrifices and achievements have helped to shape the Canada we know today.

Canada Remembers Holland video (22 minutes)

Ten Canadian teenagers travel to the Netherlands on a veteran's pilgrimage and develop a new respect for what Canadian veterans endured in order to liberate the Dutch from Nazi occupation.

Second World War History Video (22 minutes)

This video chronicles Canada's participation in the Second World War both on the homefront and overseas, through veterans' testimonials and wartime video footage.

Four colourful posters

The four posters — Canadians Overseas, The Home Front, Canada 1939, and A Living Legacy — depict life at home and overseas.

Teacher's guide

The all encompassing Teacher's Guide provides lesson plans, accompanying background historical information, activity sheets and extension activities. Topic areas include: the events and conditions leading to Canada's Declaration of War; the major Canadian involvements in the war overseas; the diversity of those who served; the contribution of individuals and industry on the homefront; and the impact of the war on Canada post-1945 to today.

The teacher's guide also includes a detailed listing of resources where additional information can be obtained and added to class lectures, assignments, discussions and project work.
